About
Sara Rose (they/them) is an experienced performer, singer-songwriter and voice teacher who provides gender-inclusive and neurodivergent-friendly coaching sessions in voice, songwriting, performance, and vocal improv exploration; they also offer voice-based soundbaths.
Services can be offered in French and English.
Sara Rose has been songwriting and performing professionally for about 18 years. They are a seasoned singer-songwriter who is ever-passionate about singing, performance, and songwriting.
They also have over 18 years of experience caring for and teaching children of all ages and neurotypes in various capacities, and is endlessly passionate about sharing their love of music and bringing a sense of play to vocal exploration.
Sara Rose’s educational background includes a BA in Honours Psychology, some undergraduate music education, followed by one year of studies in music psychotherapy at the master's level.
They have also studied contemporary voice teaching through Berklee College, and have completed Level 1 & 2 of Estill Voice Training (anatomy-based voice training).
Additionally, they have completed courses in songwriting, and in teaching Music Together (science-based parent and tot music classes).
Sara Rose is also an avid community-builder and event coordinator, clown, and life-long learner, who strongly value creativity, self-expression, emotional literacy, and community. As a neurodivergent, non-binary member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, Sara Rose strives to provide more accessible services, limiting barriers to the expressiveness and play that come through musical exploration, and tailoring lessons to students’ wide-ranging needs and sensitivities. They believe that anyone who thinks they have a "bad voice" just hasn't learned how to use it yet!
Sara Rose feels that supporting singers in uncovering the voice they've always wanted is such a special privilege, and they hold precious the vulnerability it takes to explore one’s voice with another person.
“Sara’s work is where voice, play, and self-expression meet — a space to grow your- voice, community, creativity with care- together”

Focus & Approach:
“Everyone Can Sing- Many people believe that they either can or can’t sing. They think they have to either accept the sound of their voice or stop singing altogether. Sara Rose believes everyone can sing, and if someone doesn’t like the sound of their own voice, they can change it! ”
-
Sara Rose takes a multi-dimensional approach to meeting student’s needs and sensitivities, cultivating a safer, braver space to ensure students feel safe enough to have fun while exploring and expanding their relationship with their voice.
-
It is a common neurodivergent experience to struggle with connecting to physical sensation or finding precise muscle coordination, and it is common for gender-diverse individuals to feel disconnected from their bodies and voices. For this reason, focusing on the anatomy—the parts of the voice we use to sing and speak—can support singers who have a tendency to forget their bodies when they sing. Sara Rose ensures that lessons move at the student’s pace.
-
Lessons focus mainly on contemporary singing and songwriting, but inquiries for other practices and styles are certainly welcome.
Sara might be a good fit if you are at the beginning of your learning journey, or if you are a more experienced vocalist and would like to refine your technique and explore new stylistic choices.
